East New York Basement Apt Conversion Program Under Way

The deadline for Community Based Organizations to become the vendor to oversee the implementation of the basement apartment conversion program, is August 15, 2018. (see the info and link below)

For homeowners who are interested in having their basements converted to legal apartments, we are contacting the Mayor’s office to get clarity on that process so we can pass it on to you. The Mayor’s Public Engagement Unit is supposed to be conducting outreach to homeowners who are interested in converting their basements, but it is unclear as to how they are performing this outreach. As soon as we have an answer we will post the information and will also share via eblast.

From NYC website: HPD is seeking a Housing Development Fund Corporation (HDFC) to implement the Basement Conversion Pilot Program in East New York for a total contract term of three years. The Basement Conversion Pilot Program is a demonstration project that aims to create 40 below-grade apartments within one- to-three unit homes in Brooklyn Community District 5 (East New York). HPD will fund technical assistance and provide low-rate financing to eligible homeowners in cooperation with an HDFC contractor to convert their basements into housing units compliant with code requirements.

Any vendor that believes that it can provide the required services is invited to express their interest by submitting a proposal by no later than the revised due date and time as follows: 2:00 pm, August 15, 2018.  Here is the latest addendum from HPD
