The Olsen twins have long been fans of the Village, from attending NYU to naming their fashion line the Row after the famous brick townhouse along Washington Square North. Now single sister Ashely is setting up a permanent home in the ‘hood, as the Wall Street Journal reports that she’s in contract to buy a two-bedroom spread at 37 East 12th Street that was last listed for $7.1 million. The 19th century building with a Beaux-Arts cast-iron facade is being converted to six, full-floor boutique condos, and listing agent Jared Seligman of Douglas Elliman said this privacy is what Olsen liked.

The listing says the 3,000-square-foot apartment “reflects a gracious, Old World sensibility, reimagined for contemporary living.” Some of the original details include barrel-vaulted ceilings, oversized picture windows, and exposed cast iron columns. They mix well with modern additions like chevron-patterned five-inch walnut flooring and the sleek living room fireplace.

What sets the unit apart is the steel and restoration glass doors that section off the kitchen and dining room. The kitchen is quite exquisite with custom rift white oak cabinetry, honed marble counters, and Spanish crackle-glazed subway tiles on the backsplash and arched ceilings.

The bedrooms are fairly neutral, but plenty spacious and bright. Master baths have honed Calcatta marble walls, custom mosaic floors, a freestanding polished-metal soaking tub, separate toilet, and rain shower. The powder room has cast Moroccan tile floors and a custom vanity with reclaimed Museum of Modern Art marble.

This is not the 29-year-old Olsen’s first foray into downtown real estate. In 2004, she and twin sister Mary Kate bought a $7.3 million penthouse at 1 Morton Square to serve as their NYU “dorm,” selling it in 2010 for $7.7 million. In 2014, Mary Kate and now-husband Olivier Sarkozy bought painter David Deutsch’s magnificent Turtle Bay townhouse for $13.5 million.
