For those who think affordable housing and creative design don’t go together, this Long Island City rental from ODA Architects could very well change their minds. Known as 2222 Jackson Avenue, the 175-unit, 11-story building features the firm’s signature stacked cube shape and an exposed concrete facade that “maintains the structure’s seeming ability to change shape as natural light plays with the unique silhouette of the structure,” according to the teaser site.

As of tomorrow, 35 apartments here will be up for grabs through the city’s affordable housing lottery. Units will range from $850/month studios to $1,274/month three-bedrooms, quite the deal considering residents will be living right across from MoMA PS1 in one of the city’s trendiest ‘hoods.

As CityRealty.com reported, leasing at 2222 Jackson kicked off in June, with market-rate units renting from $2,350/month for studios to $5,650 for three-bedrooms.

All apartments feature floor-to-ceiling windows, white oak hardwood floors, custom stone counters, and high-end appliances. Some have terraces.

Amenities in the building include a triple-height lobby with a full-time doorman, on-site parking, fitness center, indoor sky-lit swimming pool, mezzanine lounge, and a rooftop deck.

Qualifying New Yorkers can apply for the affordable units at 2222 Jackson Avenue starting tomorrow, September 9, until November 9, 2016. Residents of Queens Community Board 2 will be given preference for 50 percent of the units. Complete details on how to apply are available here (pdf). Questions regarding this offer must be referred to NYC’s Housing Connect department by dialing 311.
