Columbia University expands at Resnick’s at 880 Third Avenue

Jack Resnick & Sons announced today that The Trustees of Columbia University in the City of New York is expanding its office space at 880 Third Avenue by 12,081 s/f, for a total of 23,558 s/f in the building.

Columbia, which leased the entire 2nd floor at 880 Third Avenue in 2009 to house its Department of Ophthalmology, will expand this practice and bring Dermatology and Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery services to the entire 3rd floor of the property. The landlord will create a custom build-out for the tenant.

“We’re delighted that Columbia has chosen to grow with us and expand their medical offices at 880 Third Avenue,” said Dennis Brady, Executive Managing Director at Jack Resnick & Sons, who added the space benefits from “an outstanding location with easy access to Grand Central Terminal and several major subway lines.”

The lease renewal and expansion for Columbia follows a flurry of leasing activity at 880 Third Avenue.

Earlier in the year, Jack Resnick & Sons completed 36,000 s/f of lease renewals and expansions at the building, including deals for independent financial advisory firm QS Investors Holdings, LLC; private equity firm Culbro, LLC; strategic communications firm Stanton Public Relations & Marketing; and Fourth Wall Restaurants, LLC, the restaurant group behind such prominent upscale restaurants as Smith & Wollensky, Maloney & Porcelli, Quality Italian and Quality Meats.

Fran Delgorio and Dennis Brady of Jack Resnick & Sons represented the building owner in the long-term transaction. The tenant was represented by Columbia’s in-house real estate team. Asking office rents at the property are in the $60 per square foot range.

Located at the corner of East 53rd Street, the 18-story tower was built by Jack Resnick & Sons in 1962 and designed by Herbert Tannenbaum. Now a WiredScore Gold certified office property, one floor of 12,081 s/f remains available in the property.
