The famed recording studio where David Bowie made his last two albums will have its final session this week, shutting its doors for good.
Opened on Crosby Street in 1988, the Magic – where Lou Reed, Blondie and Norah Jones have all recorded — has officially been priced out of SoHo.
“SoHo used to be the arts and music and painters,” Steve Rosenthal, owner of the Magic Shop, told the New York Daily News “Now it’s like all you can do is shop. I see tourists wandering around looking for a New York that doesn’t exist anymore.”
Rosenthal must vacate the space by the end of the month.
“The city is in bad shape with what’s happening to music and art space and how they’re being kicked out,” Rosenthal added. [NYDN] –Christopher Cameron
