When the drop-dead gorgeous townhouse at 838 Carroll Street in Park Slope first hit the market, it made headlines with its $15 million price tag. That was earlier this year and apparently nobody bit, because a new ask of $12.75 million is now on the table. Even with the price cut, it’s still the most expensive home for sale in the neighborhood.

Designed in 1888 by architect C.P.H. Gilbert, this Romanesque Revival masterpiece is 32 feet wide and holds 8,200 square feet. The intricate historic details have been completely restored and paired with lavish modern amenities. Even the impressive bathroom, encased in marble, boasts its own fireplace!

Simply put, this eight-bedroom, eight-bathroom home is dripping in historic details. One of our favorites is the curved tower bay along the facade and a wide, sweeping front stairway that greets you in the entryway.

It’s currently configured as an owner’s quadraplex with a garden apartment. The quadraplex space holds a formal dining room, sitting room, family room, den/library and laundry room.

The townhouse also boasts 11 working wood-burning fireplaces. The architect designed such lavish details for James Remington, who practiced law in New York and lived here with his family. Since then, the fireplaces, pocket doors, decorative plaster ceilings, moldings, and mahogany inlaid oak floors have all been carefully restored.

The entire third floor is dedicated to the master suite, which has specially-designed walk-through closets and a private sitting room.

We’ll go ahead and call this master bathroom opulent, with its fireplace, steam shower and soaking tub all encased in Calacatta gold marble.

This is just a peek at the many other stunning spaces inside this townhouse mansion. The sellers are Jeanne and Joseph Accetta, who paid $3.8 million for the property in 2014 and then renovated it. So it looks like the home won’t command the $15 million they hoped for; do you think this lower price tag will have a better shot?
