● BLDG MANAGEMENT Escobar bringing creative vision to 222 East 44th tower
Interior designer Andres Escobar is bringing his creative vision to 222 East 44th Street, the 41-story tower being developed by BLDG Management.
Escobar, working with Handel Architects and executive architect SLCE, will be responsible for the design of more than 400 apartments, as well as the building’s multiple amenity spaces and common areas, starting with its visually powerful, double-height lobby. “My role in this extraordinary project is to convey the exciting architecture to the residences and shared spaces,” said Escobar. “In my mind, the design must be timeless, rather than trendy, and so I have created a contemporary aesthetic that will have continued relevance and sophistication.” Embracing the sheer volume of the 30-foot high lobby space, Escobar has fashioned an entry with regal impact. The lobby will open onto a reflecting pool topped by a 32-foot waterfall. Amenity spaces include a fitness center that registers visual simplicity, a spa-like pool area, two distinctly different lounges. On the sixth floor will be a relaxed, more informal space with gaming areas, television lounge and outdoor terrace. On the penthouse floor, Escobar has designed an elegant communal space surrounded by walls of windows a bar and catering kitchen.
